The Molecular Microbiology Laboratory

at Mount Sinai Hospital

is a state-of-the-art Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certified molecular microbiology diagnostic laboratory, specializing in utilizing cutting-edge sequenced-based testing to advance microbial diagnostics.

Mission

Our mission is to improve the accuracy, speed, and accessibility of microbial testing in clinical settings, enabling early detection and rapid response to microbial threats. Through collaboration with industry partners, academic institutions, and public health agencies, we translate our research into practical solutions that can be implemented in clinical practice.

Vision

Our vision is to revolutionize the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases through the use of emerging molecular and sequencing technologies. We aim o develop and implement molecular techniques that enable the screening of at-risk patient populations for a range of possible pathogens with advanced and robust tests, providing rapid and accurate results.

By leveraging advanced technologies such as nucleic acid sequencing technologies coupled with state-of-the-art bioinformatics, we aim to streamline the detection process and reduce costs associated with traditional diagnostic methods. Our ultimate goal is to improve patient outcomes by facilitating timely and accurate diagnoses.

Additionally, we hope to utilize these technologies to rapidly detect microbial resistance, further enhancing our ability to manage infectious diseases. Our ultimate goal is to be at the forefront of molecular microbiology research, driving innovations that benefit patients worldwide.
